Ranking Roger of The Beat has died at age 56

The Beat’s vocalist Ranking Roger has died at the age of 56.

A statement from The Beats announced, “Ranking Roger sadly past away peacefully at home with family by his side early today. Roger was a fighter.”

Roger Charlery suffered a stroke in August 2018. In January he was operated on for two brain tumours and lung cancer. It is understood the brain tumour is the cause of death.

Roger was a founding member of The Beat (called The English Beat in the USA) and was also a member of General Public. He has recorded a version of ‘The Bed’s Too Big Without You’ with Sting and Smash Mouth for ‘You Are My Number One’. He has also toured with The Police, joining Sting for ‘Roxanne’ in the 2007 world tour. Roger was also a guest performer on Big Audio Dynamite’s ‘Higher Power’ in 1994.

The most recent album was ‘Public Confidential – The Beat featuring Ranking Roger’ in January 2019.
